On December 16 and 17, R Place presented the fourth annual Lashes Cabaret Christmas Show with performances by Fraya Love, La Saveona Hunt, DonnaTella Howe, Sharon Husbenz, and host Lady Chablis, with special guest comedian and recording artist Wendy Ho. The shows were a benefit for Rise n' Shine, an organization that provides emotional support programs, stability, advocacy, and AIDS education for children and teens affected by HIV/AIDS. Some candid snaps from the 2011 Seattle Erotic Art Festival. For the first time I not only had my own work on display, but was a model in another artist's piece--by Jim Wilkinson, in his remarkable and moving Naked Truth installation. Today I attended the closing day festivities with my muse, Cory, who received much attention as he walked the exhibition, recognized by many from his photo hanging in the show. The "warrior" shown above is a member of Titanium Sporkestra, Seattle's "Heavy Metal Marching Band" which I unfortunately was too late to witness performing, but who was nice enough to pose for a shot.

It's That Time of Year Again...

With only hours to go before the deadline, I finally narrowed down my choices and submitted five images for consideration for the 2011 Seattle Erotic Art Festival. Here's a few to pique your interest in the show. Artists will find out in several weeks (or months) what work (if any) of theirs was chosen by the judges. So far, I've been extremely fortunate to have work selected in all but one of the SEAFs since 2005, and even had two images accepted in 2009. I will, as I do every year, hope for the best and report back here when I find out if I again get the honor of being in the festival.

Bacon Strip Turns Five

Local drag queen and cabaret enchantress Sylvia O'Stayformore hosted her drag/performance/costume-party extravaganza, Bacon Strip, again this month at Seattle's Rebar. To celebrate the fifth anniversary of Bacon Strip, the theme was Superheroes, and my good buddy Bucephalus presented himself as a very fetching version of SubMariner, Prince of Atlantis. As usual, great fun (and bacon) was served with audacious aplomb.

It's been a busy couple of weeks, with much event photography. Fret not, more studio work is on the way, posting here soon...

Booking The Party

Models, friends, and fans alike packed The Lobby bar in Seattle on November 4th to celebrate release of Naked Truth: Exposing Men's Souls, a unique photography project by Jim Wilkinson, whose work looks not just at a range of gay men, but also into their thoughts and feelings. I helped Jim with some technical stuff on the book, and also posed for it (see first photo above).

Like last year, Halloween was especially enjoyable this year, as with camera in-hand, I once again shadowed my great friend (and frequent model) Bucephalus, who "dressed" this year as Adam. There were plenty of other creative costumes festooning the crowd at The Cuff, but none quite as revealing as Buce's.

President Obama, and several other prominent Washington State Democrats, spoke to a capacity crowd at the University of Washington on October 21, 2010, rallying folks to help get out the vote for the November 2 mid-terms election and to re-elect Senator Patty Murray. I was lucky enough to score a seat in the VIP section, but it turned out to be a bad location for photography. Still, I got what I could. More photos can be seen on my Flickr page.

The forty-second President of the United States barnstormed through the Seattle area to help raise funds for Senator Patty Murray, up for re-election, and reminded us of what a great campaigner he is. My table wasn't very close, but I shot what I could get with my SLR and IS lens. I've already cast my ballot for Senator Murray, and encourage all Washingtonians to give her your support--and your vote.

For the past few weeks I've been helping my friend, Jim Wilkinson, on a book project of his work called The Naked Truth: Exposing Men's Souls. It's a unique approach to male nude photography, with non-professional and non-traditional models, many with internal messages--even secrets--painted on their bodies, mixed with traditional portraiture.

Jim asked me to help him with digital editing the images--and also to pose for the project. Always interested in seeing how others work and how others see me, I agreed. Above is one of the photos from that shoot. The book should be available for purchase soon--and I'll post samples and a link.

I have an ongoing project of shooting self-portraits in photobooths whenever I get the chance. I took my first series in the summer of 1989. I shot the above strip today at the member-preview of the Andy Warhol exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum. Visitors are invited to shoot a strip of photobooth pics and then trim off one picture and clip it to a wall. I took my strip home uncut to add to my project...

As of today, I have 79 strips, 1989 to 2010, and counting...

It was another triumph for the Brown Derby Series, a talented troupe of extremely funny actors who hilariously deconstruct popular movies with teeny-budget, spit-and-thrown-together staged-reading productions at Seattle's ReBar. Their take on Mary Poppins included an all-male cast, Swifter-shuffling ChimneySweeps, a string-of-expletives substitution for SuperCaliFragilisticExpialidocious, cocaine as a "spoonful of sugar" (with surrealistic results), Uncle Albert as a huffer, and all manner of abominations both sexual and theatrical.

I spent my Sunday afternoon in the company of some very motivated and passionate activists, working hard to register voters and educate folks why they should approve Referendum 71, the effort to repeal Domestic Partnerships in Washington State. (A vote to "Approve" is a vote to keep those rights.) Many thanks to Josh Castle, activist-extraordinaire, and everyone who helped out today.

On September 3, I took part in a rally in support of Barack Obama's efforts to reform the health care system. An estimated 3,000 supporters showed up (and were completely ignored by local media), as well as a small contingent of counter-demonstrators, screaming about the dangers of Socialism. I spoke with one of them in depth, who revealed himself to be a Ron Paul supporter. It was an interesting conversation, to say the least. I thanked him for showing up, even though he was completely opposed to the effort I was there to support, because I believe in free speech, even when I disagree with the content. A few weeks ago, one of my favorite friends/models/bloggers Bucephalus met me for drinks at The Cuff, wearing his newly purchased shirt that I had designed. I wore a shirt of my own design as well. While there, Buce had someone snap a photo of us together so he could post it on his blog and see what the reaction might be to the "Negative" shirt.

It was an interesting experiment, with a variety of responses, ranging from confusion ("blood type?" "London underground?") to repulsion ("Sorry to be a boor, but as a poz guy, I find it extremely. offensive.").

My thanks again to Bucephalus for 1) supporting my work (and buying a shirt), 2) putting my design out there, and 3) challenging his own blog fans for a spirited conversation, which is precisely what I'd like the design to provoke.
